Rugged industrial PC powered by Atom

Jun 25, 2009 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive

Axiomtek announced what appears to be its first “eBox” industrial computer to run on an Intel Atom. The compact, fanless eBOX620-831-FL is equipped with an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz CPU and 945GSE Express chipset, offers multiple I/O, and boasts a rugged housing and extended temperature support.

The eBOX620-831-FL's aluminum housing measures only 7.9 x 4.7 x 2.2 inches, compared to 9.0 x 7.2 x 5.5 inches for Axiomtek's recent eBOX639-840-FL, which runs on either an Intel Core 2 Duo or Celeron processor. Touted for its low power consumption, noiseless operation, graphic capability, and resistance to vibration and shock, the eBOX620-831-FL is targeted at industrial automation, digital signage, gaming systems, and vehicle applications, says the company.

The latest of Axiomtek's line of fanless eBOX PCs adopts the low-power "netbook" processor, Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N270, with a 533MHz FSB. The CPU is mated with the usual 945GSE Express chipset and integrated GMA 950 graphics. A 200-pin DIMM socket supports up to 1GB DDR2 400/533 DRAM, says Axiomtek.

For storage, a CompactFlash slot, and a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive (HDD) bay are provided. Connectivity is said to include dual gigabit Ethernet ports, four high-speed USB 2.0 ports, three COM ports, and audio/video I/O.
