MontaVista continues European expansion

May 30, 2007 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive

MontaVista plans to open a seventh European office, and add executive staff to offices in Germany and the U.K.. The new office will be based in Finland, while the new executive hires include directors of business development and field operations for the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Asia), according to the company.

The European market appears to be a growing focus for MontaVista, which last month bought two U.K.-based companies. The company currently keeps sales and support offices in France, the Netherlands, the U.K., Germany, Denmark, and Switzerland, while working with distribution channel partners in Scandinavia, France, Italy, Israel, and Spain.

MontaVista's new European executive appointments include:

  • John Phillips, VP of field operations for EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Asia); based in the U.K., Phillips previously directed European software sales for EMC Corporation
  • Sou Bennani, director of business development for EMEA
  • Jurgen Richter, of Munich, sales manager for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland
  • Iisko Lappalainen, of Helsinki, technical sales engineer

Although the use of Linux in embedded applications is better established in the U.S., it may have grown faster in Europe over the last two and a half years, according to a VDC research report.

MontaVista claims to have about 2,000 customers, and to have shipped in some 40 million mobile devices.
