In “Enabling the Whuffie Economy”, Howard Rheingold writes about Affero's “reputation software,” which combines a peer based reputation system with a commerce system, enabling individuals to rate other individuals or projects and make payments on their behalf (with obvious applicability to open source projects) . . .

“Affero is a new wrinkle, one that holds some promise . . . If Affero or something like it can spread beyond the open source technical support community, that elusive but all important quality Cory Doctorow calls 'whuffie', could expand and circulate through social cyberspaces . . .”
