Mobile video broadcast conference seeks speakers

A conference on digital video broadcasting for mobile terminals has issued a call for papers. The second annual “GSPx — TV to Mobile” conference is set for Mar. 29-30, 2006 in Amsterdam, and will feature tutorials, as well industry papers describing real-world implementations of compression and broadcasting standards. Book looks at Linux kernel from the hardware up

SDK adapts Embedded browser UI to Linux-based devices

Access will update its embedded browser SDK (software development kit) in January, adding a popup blocker, search/translation bar, Web data manager, and predictive software keyboard. NetFront SDK 3.3 can be used to create customized browsers or browser-based interfaces for Linux-based set-top boxes, digital televisions, IP phones, and game consoles, Access says. (more…)

Embedded real-time POSIX test suite beta testing

The Open Group is beta testing a test suite that tests compliance with a POSIX standard for single-tasking computers with filesystems. The VSPSE52-2003 suite is a merged superset of four previously available Open Group test suites. It tests compliance with POSIX 1003.13 Profile 52, the “embedded real-time controller” system profile. Embedded Linux tools vendors help set CDT goals

A project aimed at enabling C/C++ developers to use the Eclipse cross-vendor tools integration framework held a summit last month, with the aim of setting development priorities. Twenty companies attended the Contributors Summit for the C/C++ Development Tool (CDT), an Eclipse plug-in used in most embedded Linux development toolsuites. (more…)

Tiny USB hard drive dongle runs Linux

Tom's Hardware has reviewed a USB dongle based on a miniature 1-inch hard drive. The Zinside H2 is based on a Cornice 3GB “Storage Element” drive, and comes with a Ubuntu Linux installation CD that the publication used to install the older “Warty Warthog” release, creating a portable but slow Linux desktop. Open source embeddable database betas 2.0

A project to create a lightweight, embeddable database is beta testing its second release. Firebird 2.0 features derived tables, support for “execute block,” increased table sizes, improved index code, and numerous other improvements.
